With the hours winding down for the three-day Thanksgiving recess, students were asked to share what they   are thankful for this holiday.

“I am definitely thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful that I have shelter and food and a place to live,” fifth grader Astrid said.

Sixth grader Shivangi shared a similar sentiment.

“I am thankful for my parents providing me food and a place to eat,” she said.

“I am thankful for my mom because she always does her best to support me when I am down,” she said.

Meanwhile, several students are giving thanks for their school and teachers.

“I am thankful for this school, for my teachers and I am thankful for my grades,” said seventh grader Jey.

“I am thankful for my class because my classmates are nice to me,” added third grader Veronica.

Recently enrolled fourth grade student Bhargava echoed those sentiments.

“I am thankful for starting in this school,” he said.

“I am looking forward to rice and mashed potatoes,” second grader Mariam said, offering one of three votes from second grade for rice as a favorite Thanksgiving staple.

Another dish not likely on the table of the Pilgrims, but on the table of many Menands students this year? Macaroni and cheese.

“I love stuffing and baked mac and cheese,” Amarion, an eighth-grade student said.
