Menands School concludes Black History Month Celebration with popular events

Two popular events recently closed out the Menands School’s Black History Month celebration.

On March 5, a performance by ZUZU African Acrobats captivated students and onlookers alike entertained and engaged students at the school.

The Tanzania-based acrobatic troupe “were amazing to watch. The kids absolutely loved them and the performers returned that love,” said Superintendent Jennifer Cannavo.

And, on Feb. 27, an evening celebration highlighted the research students undertook into black history while celebrating that history.

“The celebration was a resounding success,” Cannavo said. “From students reciting their black history knowledge to performances by the Siena College SOLID Step Team and an interactive drumming performance by Jordan Hill, community members and students alike had fun and learned.”Acrobats performing

Besides students, parents, faculty staff and board members, also joining the celebration was Senator Jake Ashby and Menands Mayor Brian Marsh and Police Chief Ryan St Gelais.

Other activities on that evening included an art display by Mason Medina, free haircuts by Tru Images in Albany and Double Dutch jump rope lessons.

“It was a true celebration of black history and the community,” Cannavo said.
