Reminder about Dismissal for K-4 Students

On the first day of school, we will send an important packet of information home to the parents of each Menands student. In this packet will be a request for parents of each student in grades K-4 to identify their child’s regular dismissal procedure (i.e. 3 p.m. bus, parent pick up, attend YMCA program, etc.). The regular dismissal procedure that you indicate is the dismissal procedure that we will follow each day for your child.

As we have done in the past, on any day that you want your child to follow a different dismissal procedure (i.e. stay for an after school club, walk home, get picked up for an appointment, etc.) you need to send a note to your child’s homeroom teacher. Copies of our special permission form for this purpose, called blue dismissal notes, will be sent home in the first day packet and are also available here in PDF format.

Reminder about Dismissal for 5-8 Students

Afternoon dismissal is at 2:55 p.m. every day. A late bus leaves school at 4 p.m. every day. If parents would like their child to be dropped off in the afternoon at a location other than their morning bus stop, then a note stating such must be on file in the main office. Likewise, if students are to walk or ride a bicycle home, a note from a parent/guardian must be on file in the office. Permission forms for this purpose will be sent home with all students on Wednesday, September 8. Parents are reminded that there is no supervision for students walking or riding bicycles to or form school on the path between school and Lyons Avenue. Please take this into consideration when granting permission for your child to walk or ride to or from school.
