Happy Friday Menands!
Another week in the books and we are really getting into the swing of things.
The Bio Bus returned once again to Menands School! Students from multiple grade levels were treated with a real scientific experience in the mobile lab parked right out in front of the school. For half a day on Tuesday and all day on Wednesday, students prepared slides to identify cells under microscopes, probed the earth to explore different ecosystems, observed the different animal life around us, and recorded their findings along the walls of the BioBus to preserve their discoveries. recent trip to Camp Chingachgook. It explores the Outdoor Education Program and why it is an important part of our 8th grade class in building a strong community among each other. Parents Night was this past Thursday and it was a huge success. The event was well attended by our parent community with everyone eager to learn all about the educational opportunities planned for the year. Our teachers and staff did a wonderful job presenting themselves and their classrooms to show all that we have going on during the 2023-24 school year here at Menands. We want to give a big thank you to our community, including members of the P.T.A., for showing up to participate. If you were unable to make it, no worries! On Wednesday, September 20th, the P.T.A held their first meeting of the year and though they are well underway, it is not too late to sign up! There are many opportunities for parents to become involved in the PTA that fits personal schedules, strengths and interests. Your support, be it through volunteering at an event, fundraising or attending a PTA meeting, shows our students and school how much they matter. CLICK HERE to join the Menands PTA. Reminder Menands! There is no school on Monday, September 25th in honor of Yom Kippur.
Looking ahead, there are a few dates we should all keep an eye out for down the road:
Thursday, October 5th there is an Emergency Release Drill. Students will be dismissed at 2:45 pm.
Friday, October 6th there is NO SCHOOL due to a Superintendent’s Conference Day.
Monday, October 9th there is NO SCHOOL in honor of Columbus Day and recognition of Indigenous People’s Day.
