A Vision for Menands School:

Menands Legacy Planning Web Page

The Board of Education in collaboration with representatives from the entire Menands School Community continues their work of developing a vision of our school for the future. This vision will guide decisions relative to our building and facilities and a potential building improvement project.   Any project or improvements should be rooted in that vision - what we want for the children of our community, and not simply about bricks and mortar.  With the expertise, and under the guidance of Robert Hendriks, of Educational Legacy Planning, faculty, staff and members of the greater Menands community have been involved in the conversation.  This work has been captured on our own Menands Legacy Plan web site which can be accessed at the following link:

The board met again on July 16 to continue the work of developing the vision, given the input from the community at the recently held summit.  The vision will be finalized in the coming weeks, and the work to achieve it will continue.  Please continue to check the web site for updates and information.

MIT 5 Students Collect Books

MIT 5 students held a book drive to benefit the Bernard and Millie Duker Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center.  At our most recent Buy-One-Get-One Book Fair held in April students collected books and money to buy new books for the children.  They had a great time picking books out with money raised, and because it was a BOGO fair the collected money went twice as far.  Almost 100 books were donated thanks to the generosity of our school community.  (photo)

Menands School Expands High School Choices

Menands graduates have always had the unique opportunity to select from designated high school choices.  We are very excited that we have worked this year to increase the available choices from three to five, thus expanding the  options and opportunities available to our graduates.  In the 2015 -16 school year, students will have the option of attending Heatly Junior/Senior High School, Shaker High School, South Colonie High School, Tech Valley High School, or Watervliet Junior/Senior High School. This year we held a high school fair where the members of the Class of 2015 and their parents could meet representatives from the different high schools.  (information) (photos 1)  (photos 2)
